The Jackson Kayak Rogue 10 is finally here at Alder Creek Kayak & Canoe! The kayak takes on two great personalities that everyone can enjoy. Designed to be the quiver of one for the paddler whose appetite for river adventure is a bit more sampler platter than main course. Versatility is the calling card of the Rogue thanks to a hull shape designed to expertly bridge the opposing performance characteristics of being fast on flatwater while nimble in whitewater. Transitioning from light touring down meandering rivers to Class II-III whitewater is this Rogue’s calling card. Come into Alder Creek Kayak & Canoe today to try a Rogue 10 out or call 503-285-0464 for more information.

Rogue 10 on the Rogue River, Jul 15, 2011
Reviewer: Dave Slover from Portland, OR

7/15/2011

I paddled the Jackson Kayak Rogue 10 on a 4 day trip down its namesake the Rogue River last week. As an old school paddler, father, husband and working stiff I found a lot to like in this kayak. I am 235 lbs, 6 1 and have been paddling whitewater less than 10 days per year for the past 10 years. Like many of you I long for the days of 150 to 200 days per year on the water but I am pretty sure that it will never happen

This boat is just right for a person like me, at 27 inches wide it is stable, more stable than any whitewater boat that Ive paddled in the past (except the Liquid Logic XP 10) . At 10 long it is equal in length to my last favorite boat - the Mtn 300 from Pyranha - so that seemed just about right. The cockpit is roomy, easy to enter and exit while still allowing me to brace solidly. The one complaint I have is the back-band which cut into my lower back just a bit by day three, otherwise this kayak is awesome!

People who should look at this kayak are old timers like me who want to paddle with confidence in whitewater up to class II, III or easy IV but dont have as much time as they used to. Or new folks to kayaking who want to paddle easy rivers in a kayak that will not scare them. I did not feel the need to deploy the optional skeg as the boat went just where I wanted it go all trip long.

We had raft support so I did not need to carry much gear but I could see storing a bit in the bow and a bunch in the stern. At my size the stern got a bit more edgy with added weight only in the stern. On an overnight trip I would try harder to balance the load with some bow weight. For self support, overnight trips this boat should really be considered!

1 to 5 ratings:

Cockpit comfort 4 stars (the back band)
Sprayskirt on/off 5 stars (3x snapdragon was dry and very easy on and off)
Paddle-ability 4.5 stars (tracks great, turns great, just a bit edgy in the stern in squirrelly water)
Roll- ability 5 stars (came right back up in the middle of the coffee pot please see previous comment about squirrelly water!)
Hatch dryness 4.5 stars (I had just a couple drops in the stern hatch or the cockpit.)
