Canoeists and car campers: You should have atleast one barrel. Available in 30 and 60 liters, these are STURDY and DRY. My 30 liter barrel sits packed in the corner of my room, ready to go at a moment's notice.

Why go with a barrel instead of a large dry bag? It conveniently doubles as a camp stool. Barrels are critter proof (critters being those curious animals smaller than bears: mice, squirrels, raccoons, coyotes, ets.) making them great for food storage. Rigid handles make for easy carrying and tying down. And unless you're filling the whole thing with sand, it'll probably float. There are also a variety of backpack-style harnesses for portaging.

Barrels are pretty darn sweet.
